16 Feb 2013 - Singaporean Singapore Day

You must read The Guardian's Singapore protest: 'Unfamiliar faces are crowding our land' [Link]

Ain't it a shame that Straits Times and other mainstream media in Singapore has not written anything on this historic event.

Today, 16 February 2013, is the day that Singaporeans will stand together at Hong Park at 4pm for a "Singaporean Singapore"! (thanks to Faisal of WP for this call)

Though it is raining now (11.30 am) where I live, I pray it will stop soon. Should it continue,  I sincerely hope that Singaporeans are courageous and strong enough to brave the rain, the muddy field to 'be in the moment' to show the PAP government and the world wide world that

Singaporeans aren't Quitters!
Singaporeans aren't Fair Weather Wimps!
Singaporeans aren't Pushovers!
Singaporeans aren't Retards!

The Singapore Pledge is not an Aspiration.
The Singapore Pledge is now a Call To Action.
On 16 February 2013, Singaporeans will gather at Hong Lim Park at 4pm to be, not pledge, not aspire, but

TO BE ONE UNITED PEOPLE,
REGARDLESS OF RACE, LANGUAGE OR RELIGION
TO BUILD A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY
BASED ON JUSTICE AND EQUALITY
SO AS TO  ACHIEVE HAPPINESS, PROSPERITY AND
PROGRESS FOR OUR NATION

TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN AND OUR GRANDCHILDREN
FROM BEING INVADED BY ALIEN FOREIGNERS
WHO SO ARROGANTLY TAKE AWAY
OUR JOBS,
OUR HOUSES,
OUR LANGUAGES,
OUR LIVING SPACES AND
OUR RIGHTS TO PRESERVE OUR WAY OF LIFE.

Be there!

Lest I be accused of being xenophobic, I am not. I have nothing against foreigners. I am against a government that will make Singapore lose its core.. It is already bad with 5.3 million of more than 40% aliens now. For the sake of my children and grandchildren, I cannot allow our lives to be messed up further by allowing more foreigners to take away our core, our values, our way of life!

Peng you, word of advice here.
Mr Goh has written something along very xenophobic blog about different types of foreigners which is not putting a very good cast on the organizer.
This has put many people off to come forward and support.
Suggest the team stick to the objection of policy paper and not go off tangent and make it a narrow foreigners-bashing/attack event.
Hope you realize it before too late.

3.15pm ... the rain started falling. are these showers of blessing or weeping of tears to Singaporeans from the sky? .. I dun have the answer.

Peoples from different races, ages are gathering at different spots ... some to shelter from the falling rain, some braving the rain without any protection

Nevertheless, their presences are truly remarkable ... the fear factor on their shoulders are eroding, they are standing up to be "HEARD" by pap

My eyes tears and mixed with the falling rain down my face at the sight of many aged citizens. They and many other forefathers had toiled with the founding members of the pap to built Singapore

But this is being taken away by the son of one of the founding member ..... SHAME ON YOU, Lee HL, destroying the social fabric of the nation with his plan to open the floodgates to foreigners for whatever reasons

I read the blog post and its no where near xenophobic. Its just stereotyping which we all as human beings do as we like to categorise people - just like we like to say ACS boys are buaya and SCGS girls aspire to be taitai. In fact I thought the post was very kind to most foreigners and describe them as "friendly". It is rather factual that the ang mohs like to hang out at Clarke Quay and the PRCs like to hang out at China town or Geylang. I don't see how this can be xenophobic. And I don't see how one such article should stop Singaporeans to say no to overpopulated Singapore. More like jealous individuals unhappy that the Gilbert Goh can garner so much support from Singaporeans.

I like the honest views of the different type of foreigners in Singapore. Seriously, you mean you don't have any opinions on the different types of foreigners? And you really think all of them, be it Filipinos or PRC or Europeans or Indians have the same habit and work in the same industry? Most Singaporeans have encounters with different groups of foreigners and of course form different opinions and views of different groups of people. Just like many like to say Singaporeans are kiasu and kiasee and is that xenophobic? Come on. Or blonde women are ditzy. Or that is xenophobic as well? Stop the xenophobic bashing.

Absolutely no regrets for being there even though there was a drizzle. Crowd was estimated @ 4-5k, the biggest group of protesters@ HL Park so far.

The best joke of the evening was "When they passed he MOTION on the White Paper, then only they realised SHIT! They never consulted the people."

I think xenophobia is the unfairest and unkindest adjective to describe the Singaporean reaction to the proposed population increase.

Almost 40% now, and increasing.

In no other country has citizens patiently allowed immigration numbers to grow to such an extent before pushing back. Only in Singapore, has Singaporeans tolerated and accommodated such a percentage for so long.

In other countries, single-digit and low double-digit immigrant percentages have had citizens marching on the streets and politicians voted out. 40% in Singapore, and we are XENOPHPOBIC?

What is the minimum % of born and bred Singaporeans to be maintained, before Singapore ceases to be Singapore? If there are only 40%, 30 or 20% Native Singaporeans left on this island, what do we call ourselves?

This is a FASCIST and TOTALITARIAN government that exploits its people to benefit the party and the elites.

The MSM did report about the event. Either you have BURIED your head (or yourself) in the sand and refused to accept the truth, or, you are just plain lying.
