They came
With crowd like this, there is hope yet for Singapore

Unlike the National Day Parade, we sang our National Anthem without any rehearsal
at about 6.50pm on Saturday 16 February 2013
"To Be In The Moment"
"Bahagia"
(Happiness)
[Majulah Singapura Video Link]
Sing it like you have never sung it before!
A Happy Place for our grandchildren in 2030!

Mari kita rakyat Singapura
sama-sama menuju bahagia;
Cita-cita kita yang mulia,
berjaya Singapura.

Marilah kita bersatu
dengan semangat yang baru;
Semua kita berseru,
Majulah Singapura,
Majulah Singapura!

Marilah kita bersatu
dengan semangat yang baru;
Semua kita berseru,
Majulah Singapura,
Majulah Singapura!

Come, fellow Singaporeans
Let us progress towards happiness together
May our noble aspiration bring
Singapore success

Come, let us unite
In a new spirit
Together we proclaim
Onward Singapore
Onward Singapore

Come, let us unite
In a new spirit
Together we proclaim
Onward Singapore
Onward Singapore

Thank you my fellow Singaporeans for your love, solidarity and courage to brave the rain and mud to tell the PAP that
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Dear Lee Hsien Loong and PAP,

This event is the National Conversation
If you choose not to listen
And continue with your arrogance
You will be the cause of xenophobia in Singapore

No, not because Singaporeans are xenophobic
But because you have force upon us more than we can humanly tolerate
Please solve the current shortage of infrastructure for the 5.3 million
Before coming up with your high falutin' 6.9 million!

Boleh kita sama sama menuju bahagia?
(Can we progress together towards happiness?)
Mesti boleh!
(For sure, we can!)
If only you are humble and sincere enough to listen and work together with the people!

Singaporeans need to be more responsive (than this black event) and be more self-reliant on ourselves (less foreign maids/ cleaners/ ...)?

Only with the right mentality will we be able to reach the point where Singapore can really rely less and less on foreigner again, ideally less than 25% ...

Never sang the National Anthem with more emotion and misty eyes in my entire life !
What an afternoon to stand in the drizzle among compatriots to register our frustration with a "coverment" who has so far been deaf and concerned largely with GDP and money !

Fish
Our beautiful anthem is for the people and about the people.
No mention of king, queen, raja or sultan.
To me it is a prayer to the Al-Mighty for us Singaporeans. Traitors be damned.

Will history repeat itself? George Santayana certainly thought so.

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Rivers_of_Blood

This paragraph could be describing Singapore instead of the UK:

/// ... For reasons which they could not comprehend, and in pursuance of a decision by default, on which they were never consulted, they found themselves made strangers in their own country.

They found their wives unable to obtain hospital beds in childbirth, their children unable to obtain school places, their homes and neighbourhoods changed beyond recognition, their plans and prospects for the future defeated; at work they found that employers hesitated to apply to the immigrant worker the standards of discipline and competence required of the native-born worker; they began to hear, as time went by, more and more voices which told them that they were now the unwanted. They now learn that a one way privilege is to be established by act of parliament; a law which cannot, and is not intended to, operate to protect them or redress their grievances is to be enacted to give the stranger, the disgruntled and the agent-provocateur the power to pillory them for their private actions. ///

Marvelous event ! I was there and could see real national bonding. Strangers coming together, making friends instantly, singing the national anthem with gusto. What better National Conversatiom can you get ? We should have at least one such event every month. Finance is not an issue as I could see many donors dropping money into the donation boxes. I myself contributed. a humble $10. The Speakers Corner has been a white elephant for too long. Time to make better use of it - for national bonding.

The crowd strength was easily 7 - 8000, if you include those who came late and left early, definitely many times more than you would see at a PAP rally. This is the real difference - listening to a real Natcon vs regurgitated proaganda ! If people like Nicole Seah, Dr Tan Cheng Bock could be there, the crowd could swell above 10,000. Well done Gilbert & the many bloggers who helped publicise the event. Singaporeans will be greatly indebted to you guys !

The dog who like to eat shit will continue to eat the shit. From young, he is not taught to listen. He was told he will rule like a great leader and people will listen and obey him. Even a protest would be at a designate area decided by him. Wake up Sinkies!

There was a Mandarin classical song praising the young Singapore in the 60's.. it goes like this

啊,新加坡,啊,新加坡,我亲爱的的祖国,你多年轻。。。。。。。。

On, Singapore, Oh, Singapore, my beloved mother land, you are so young....

Organisers, if you are reading this, pls print more T-shirts next time - 5,000 or even 10,000 should not be a problem. Then we can wear this for similar events in future. Imagine if every one of the 5,000 people wear the same T-shirt, we will really look like ONE UNITED PEOPLE. Great way to fund the event also !

Proud of all of you who made a stand, so proud to have fellow Singaporeans who care more than the God Almighty Dollar.

At first the dark clouds had me worried that people may not turned up for the protest rally. But when I witnessed for myself the hordes of ordinary people from all walks of life heading towards the destination despite the drizzle, my worries were unfounded.

Our PAP leaders by now should be peeing in their pants. Their days of arrogance may end sooner than expected especially when LKY is now preparing to ascend to his Hell for the so many sins agaisnt humanity that he has committed against fellow Singaporeans.

Be very afraid, PAP.

Fish,

We were half an hour late, there were already so many people and we had difficulty moving towards the stage and had to stand behind. Other than to show support, we actually also wanted to meet up with you - our favourite Singaporean uncle, too bad we did not get the chance.

Anyway, a great day for us listening to great speeches with great fellow countrymen/women around us.

Fish, like anon @2.56am, I was also hoping to do the same.
Despite my lingering gout on one leg, I consider it a wimp's excuse not to turn up in comparison to what you had to go through. The rain or whatever weather, even if it was the CNY period should never be used as an excuse for any Singaporean who feels passionately for his country......that it is time to make a Stand !
Perhaps the organizers will consider having a signed petition to hold a referendum on the immigration policy, cpf policy, housing policy, etc.
