Time For Singapore President To Do Real Work
Dear Mr President of Singapore,
Are you sleeping
Are you sleeping
Pres-si-dent
Pres-si-dent
Singaporeans are angry
Very, very angry
Do you know?
Or don't you know?
(Sing to the tune of "Are you sleeping, Brother John")
I have the good fortune of attending the NSP's forum on Population Planning In Singapore at Bras Basah Complex last evening. [Link]
To listen to Hazel, Ravi, Tony and Bryan speak on the subject of the Population White Paper put forth by PAP is worth my effort and my bewilderment of having to take a lift of Block 232 to reach #04-41 of Block 231. To have touched the hands of these young people and spoken to them personally is a bonus! They and other politically minded citizens (audience) who care for the future of my children and my grandchildren deserves my respect and praise. The simple fact that they have the fortitude to stand up to PAP to make Singapore a better place speaks volume of their courage. They deserve our respect. Hormat!
- The notion that more human imports are needed to help support the ageing population in Singapore is a farce. The PAP government do not provide free health care nor other benefits like pensions to seniors (except for filthy rich ministers and elite civil servants). Such duties are taken care of by filial children or VWO. Old folks who do not have children to help take care of themselves by working as cleaners in hawkers centres/food courts or pick empty cartons and aluminium cans when their CPF depletes. It is sly to claim that foreign imports help the ageing population in Singapore.
- What is the reason for PAP to want to have 7 million in 2030? Is it done for economic or political reason?
- If the reason is economic, there is no reason to convert so many foreigners to Singaporeans. They can be 'guest workers" and return to their country of origin when the job is done. Why make them citizens to compete with born and bred Singaporeans?
- We are not only importing young foreigners, their ageing parents come along too.
- Why is PAP forcing this agenda at such speed especially after Punggol East's by-election?
- Studies showing that the high population density in Singapore will negatively impact the fertility rate of Singaporeans.
- GIC and Temasek should invest in Singapore and Singaporeans instead of losing overseas.
- The depreciation of the Singapore passport and how it is easy-peasy to be a Singaporean. Gone are the days when all men who wished to be Singapore citizens had to do at least 2 years National Service (followed by reservist duty) to qualify.
- PAP should lift the Party Whip in Parliament so that MPs can speak and vote with conscience (if they have one).
- "A sustainable population for a dynamic Singapore" is not going to work.

President sleeping.
Maybe every loyal Singaporean has to honk his car when we drive past the Istana.
To wake up the sleepy head inside.
Honk if you say NO to 7 million in 2030.
They are right. Why convert these immigrant workers to citizens when their job is to work and generate the GDP? Others can replace them if they leave - keeping these workers "forever young". Look at Brunei and the oil rich Middle East - they have hordes of migrant workers but are not converted to citizens. Why here?
Will the President do what is right? Did Ong Teng Cheong get his 50 man years? I probably got a better chance at striking the big sweep, or as they say, if pigs can fly.
How much is the president paid? He should be doing something constructive to justify his salary and the prestige of his title
Aiyoh, only the WP can talked lah....Get elected first lah, and let the WP TALKED lah.....
Pigs do fly. Think Swine flu.
Anyway, our President will cite protocol. At most, he can only mutter "We are not amused" when he request to meet the PM, no ?
Well, he went OVERSEAS mah...so he was not involved lah or briefed lah..
Haha........
Do not expect too much of a sleepy President.
And
why should a decoration piece dictates his masters(owners)), when it is placed in the most comfortable place? On top of that, it is given great admirationss and constant polishes from its' masters.
If it was going to take 50 over man years to cater to Ong Teng Cheong, it may have to take 500 man years for the Current One .
Do see that he talks and moves in slow motion.
Anyway, any Singaporean feels the President can be relied upon for any purpose?
patriot
So many private trips abroad.
Very good timing, hokkien say,,,
Chao lee bee.
My main duties see people play sports only what!!
What more you expect
Are you sure you want a referendum on this? Knowing the PAP, they will come up with these options (as they did when we had the referendum on whether to join Malaysia in 1963):
a) To have a population of 6.9 million by the year 2030
b) To have a population of 9.9 million by the year 2030
c) To have a population of 12.9 million by the year 2030
HDB flats are "subsidized" ... no?
So more citizens and PRs buying "subsidized" flats is raiding our reserves ... no?
So, is it Crony Tan's job to protect the reserves or not?
How true ! We bring in the young to replace the aging population, & allow them to bring in their parents & grandparents ! WTF ! Classic case of lam par par lan. Pot pot pot pot !!!! Wake up and start justifying your million dollar salary will you ?
Mr President please wake up ....
Singaporeans are unhappy over the 6.9 millions people in 2030....
Please speak up for the people...

Conclusion -
I don't blame those who commented on my previous post that Low Thia Khiang is being modest or conservative so as not to scare everyone, trying to form a new govt. After all, Low is the most astute opposition MP in Singapore's history so far (other than LKY when he himself started as an opposition member).
Low's idea is actually asking everyone to expect his party to work with the PAP. He wants to co-drive whatever the PAP is doing. He wants to form an alliance.
If you are comfortable with what the PAP has done so far, including all the aloofness and elitism, which has left the ordinary people behind, continue to support WP to work with the PAP on that.
If you are not comfortable with that, please let Low Thia Khiang know that he cannot just say he wants to co-drive. He has to be confident to form a govt, based on what WP has promised its voters - ie keep the leaders close to the ground
How come there was no NATIONAL CONVERSATION on this? Why was this not discussed during the National CONversation?
The NatCON is meant to con us big time. That's why
Thank you Fish for the well-written article (which I fully agree) and NSP, for being couragous to speak out for true born Singaporeans. NSP will continue to have the support of my whole family in the coming GE (Marine Parade GRC).
No thanks to the sleeping Presient and if you continue to sleep on your job, I wish you never wake up so that we can have another PE to get a real 'People-President'.
Our whole family will be there at Hong Lim Park on Feb 16 to show our support.
Many said they want to convert these immigrant workers to citizens to up their votes to stay in Power, knowing that they are losing support from 'real' Singaporeans.
If this is really the case, it is scary and we should kick them out in the next GE!
You know, whenever I see Tony Tan I seem to think that he is sleep-walking. Someone said that this guy is even worse than the previous seat warmer.
But that is the job of the President?
It is to warm the seat and not do anything.
Remember Ong Teng Cheong?
He misunderstood the word "Executive" in Executive President and actually tried to do something.
Executive President means your family will never have to pay for your grand funeral.
"How come there was no NATIONAL CONVERSATION on this? Why was this not discussed during the National CONversation? "
Because it is a NATCON. If they tell you ahead then how to CON you ? Food for thought.
pls president, what are you waiting for? singaporean voted you in is for you to do what is right for our country. speak up when we need you.
all MPs too, please speak up
